Systems Analysis is the study of complex computer
systems. It examines application systems from both functional and technical
perspectives. Functional analysis focuses on the functional capabilities of
an application system and determines if they meet the current needs of the
business. Technical analysis evaluates the system from an architectural
perspective and examines its operational stability, performance,
maintainability and operating costs.
The systems analyst is responsible for performing the
systems analysis. An analysis project is normally undertaken when a
business is thinking about enhancing, replacing or re-architecting an
application system. The systems assessment is performed based on documented
business requirements that result from business analysis.
